A BERGAMA RUG
WEST ANATOLIA, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY
The rust-red field scattered with various polychrome flowerheads around an indigo lozenge medallion with a lemon-yellow lozenge centrepiece decorated with floral sprays, hanging pendants above and below, the sea-green spandrels containing similar flowerheads and hexagonal motifs, in a broad pale lemon-yellow flowerhead and floral spray border between scrolling S-motif and barber-pole stripes, a long kilim strip at each end, light overall wear, scattered small repairs, repaired selvages in parts on both sides
