OTTOMAN CARPETS IN THE XVI - XVII CENTURIES (16-17TH CENTURIES)



 

Ushak prayer carpet, De Calatchi Collection. Dragons, Imperial guardian lions (Shi or Foo), Iris flowers are recognisible. The lower part of the rug is decorated with a sort of double mihrab set with an arabesque in the shape of Tchi inside which blooms grandly a water-lily flower.

According to Stefano Ionescu (the author of "Antique Ottoman Rugs in Transylvania") this rug is another fake copied after the Bode - Von Angeli rug.
