A small antique Baku rug with a shield medallion in a sky blue ground, probably Surakhani village, circa 1890

Code: BKSH01

Size: 85x131cm

Size (ft): 2'9"x4'3"

Description: The shield medallion in the central field is an abstract representation of the formal Safavid garden, according to some scholars. Small motifs in the center of the medallion can be extreme abstractions of the fishes depicted in the water channels of eighteenth century Garden carpets.
