Antique Karabagh Cloudband village rug

Age: ~1900-1910

Size
: 115x230cm

Size (ft): 4'0"x7'6"

Structure & materials: wool pile, wool warps (dark brown and ivory yarns twisted - "salt&pepper") and ivory wool wefts (in some places dark brown and soft red wool)

Ends: Horizontal band of two-pick oblique interlacing warps. Braided fringes.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Condition: Very good. Full pile. Beautiful dark greens and blues. Repair in one place.

Design: Two and half central medallions fill the madder red field. All have cloudband motifs and square star centres. Domestic animals and bird figures, tribal motifs and floral rosettes are scattered about. All are in the main border of a star motif between the S-like wave pattern minor borders.
