Antique Azerbaijan carpet, NW Iran, 19th century.
Sauj Bulag The earth brown field shows a repeat of large cruciform flowers in a diamond lattice of yellow serrated leaves. The design of the yellow-ground main border with striking dotted outlines is rarely seen in Sauj Bulag rugs made in the mountainous region surrounding Lake Urmia. Herrmann has published an example with an identical border. The sides have been cut and reselvedged. Both ends somewhat reduced, various repaired areas.
