A SILK HERIZ CARPET
North West Persia, dated 14 Rajab AH 1285/31 October 1868 AD
The ivory field with a garden design of channels of angular waves around bold serrated floral and inscription cartouches containing Persian verses dividing six panels of four polychrome squares containing floral panels and stylised trees, in a shaded rust-red border of turtle-palmettes and floral meander together with inscription cartouches containing further verses and the date, between ivory and light rust delicate floral meander stripes, outer barber-pole and plain stripes
