Polo Blazon, Mamluk period, 14th century; Wool,
appliqué and couching; Museum of Islamic Art, Egypt The woolen textile is decorated with a blazon, that has been added in yellow. The blazon consists of a cup in the middle with a polo stick at its side. It depicts the symbol of the Jukandar, who is in charge of carrying the two polo sticks of the Sultan when he goes to play polo. Polo is a game played by two teams of men on horseback who use mallets to drive a ball through goalposts. Dimensions: Length 18 cm Width 10 cm |
