General/Historical Information:  Shilyan Village is located 70 km to the south-west of Shamakhy. It has also been woven in neighbor villages such as Cheltikli, Mususlu, Yeni Shilyan, Sor-Sor. Shilyan carpets were considered as one of the best in Istanbul Carpet Market in XIX century.

This carpet was considered as a symbol of goodness in Azeri families.

Art Analysis: The general composition of central field looks like a honeycomb. In ancient Shilyan carpets the central field was made exactly  according to the shape and color of a honeycomb. Even the elements that were located between these tiles, were in the shape of a honey. Bee as a symbol of hard-working and abundance, was used in Shilyan carpets. In this carpet it replaced with the flowers with yellow petals. But the tiles are in a hexagon shape, which is exactly the same shape of a honeycomb.

It must be emphasized that this is the one of the most ancient ornaments of Eastern World. Its history goes back until 9th century. It calls Petek, and also Bend Rumi. 

The border is consisted of two zanjira's and one kayma.

Condition: very good

Technical Analysis: Density of "Shilyan" carpets varies from 45x45 to 50x50 per square decimeter. (from 200.000 to 250.000 knots per square meter)

The height of pile: 4-5 mm

Comments: Carpet "Shilyan" is considered as one of the best quality samples of Azerbaijan carpets.
