A rare antique Talish rug with saturated colors

Structure: wool pile, ivory wool warps and ivory wool wefts.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Condition: Medium pile, overall good condition, some minor areas of low pile, minor repiled areas, corroded browns, the selvedges and ends repaired.

Notes: A very rare Tree ("Chevron") design on a "Talish" rug. Acquired from a private collection in North Germany. Rare remarkable colors which can be seen only in early pieces - light brown, maroon, coral, light red, apricot. Eternal knot (rosette) and dice border. The rosettes in the characteristic guard borders are more rounded than usual.

The only known similar example was sold at Rippon Boswell Wisbaden for $33 000 in 2004 (20 November 2004, lot 26). It was qualified as the best Caucasian rug in the sale by Hali.
