This silk embroidery from Azerbaijan, perhaps made around 1800 features stylized calyxes/palmette motif, inspired by plant forms and traditional decorative motifs. The uneven, multicolored background is a typical feature of these textiles and adds to their visual interest. The piece is framed by a classic border design of stars and cartouches, which provides structure and emphasizes its cultural significance.

We see this specific geometrical palmette design appearing in pile carpets from around the same period, suggesting a shared visual language and possibly cross-influence between embroidery and carpet weaving traditions.
