Antique Karabagh "Kasim Ushag" rug, circa 1880, Elisabethpol Governorate (Елизаветпольская губерния), Zangezur Uyezd

This example appeared at a major American auction in 2014, where it was catalogued as a "Karabagh rug dating to circa 1860." The carpet features the characteristic row of four latch-hooked medallions set within a richly ornamented field and framed by the classic ivory-ground "crab" border associated with this rare group. Formerly in a private New England collection, the piece was estimated at $5,000–6,000 and ultimately realized $6,150.
