North West Anatolian rugs & kilims from Balikesir Province

Antique Karakeçili kilim, Balikesir-Bergama Area, Turkey, 1st half 19th century.

Lot: 221
Karakecili Kilim Half of a kilim that once consisted of two panels, woven by the Karakecili Yörük in the mountainous Balekesir region east of Bergama. Due to continuous reciprocal effects and colour distribution, the design of large motifs decorated with scrolled hooks appears confusingly complex and reads less clearly than comparable Karakecili kilims. This may be an indication for an earlier date – an assumption supported by the rich palette and the superb quality of the colours. – Corroded brown, signs of age and wear. Backed with fabric.
Origin: North West Anatolia, Balikesir region
Dimensions: 262 x 91 cm
Age: First half 19th century
Estimate: 1,600.00 €
