Antique Gendje Garmagly rug in a medium blue ground

Code: GGAR01

Age: ~1880s

Size
: 103x287cm

Size (ft): 3'4"x9'4"

Structure: wool pile, ivory/tan wool warps and purplish, dark brown and red wool wefts.

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Description: Hooked diamond lozenges with starburst ornaments on a glowing medium blue field. In the red main border, linked octagons in purple, dark blue, medium blue, green and yellow are flanked by a yellow ground "daragly" or "mishar" motif inner and ivory ground small "Z" & "S" motif outer guards. Note how the weaver started with the arrowhead motif outer border and changed it to the "Z" motif guard at the bottom. Two confronted goat and two addorsed bird motives are woven in the middle of the central field show a nice artistic approach of the weaver. Very good condition. Good natural colors including rare old purple.
