A large Petag Tabriz carpet

Age: second half 20th century

Size (ft): 14ft.3in. x 10ft.7in

Knots: Gördes (Turkish, symmetrical)

Description: This Petag Tabriz carpet carries an 18th century Caucasian design. The pile is consistently full throughout and the wool has a soft texture. The colours are rich and well-saturated and the midnight blue field displays a well-balanced 'Caucasian' design. The cintamani signature can be found in the upper left corner of the field. The carpet shows no sign of restoration or repair. It retains its original selvages which are secure and each end retains a short original kilim and fringe. Overall, this carpet is in excellent condition. Purchased from the Christie's "Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds Including Oriental Rugs and Carpets London", 28 October 2020
