Description
Bordjalou,
Southwest Caucasus, approx. 265 x 147 cm, mid-19th century, dominated by four ‘Akstafa birds’ with sweeping wings which are mirrored around the blue central medallion with primitive S-motifs, the naive filler motif with human and animal figures as well as Talish rosettes and the typical long oval shield forms of Borjalou symbolism give this piece a mystical aura, the pile is in good condition considering its age with only slight traces of wear, brown with oxidation, ends and side edges complete and original, two darned areas in the lower third, an extremely rare collector's piece!
