Antique Bordjalou rug, so called "Sewan Kazak" rug, Borchaly / Bordjalou Uyezd, Karapapakh tribe

LOT: 46
RUG NAME: Sevan Kazak
AGE: ca. 1900
ESTIMATE: 11.500 EUR
SOLD: 11.000 EUR
DESCRIPTION: SEVAN KAZAK
Origin: Southwest Caucasus, ca. 1900 Size: ca. 235 x 170 cm Estimate EUR: € 11,500
The presence of two chemical red dyes in some of the design details obliges us to date this Sevan Kazak to the period around 1900; otherwise we would be inclined to consider this carpet, with its powerful shield motif and richly detailed, well-proportioned design, an older piece. – Excellent condition, full pile, several insignificant repiled areas in the centre of the field; original finishes all around.
