Antique Bordjalou "Sewan Kazak" rug, Karapapakh tribe, c 1850, Borchaly / Bordjalou Uyezd. 6'0" x 8'11" / 184 x 271cm.  James Cohen, UK. Price: € 22,000

The huge dramatic medallion is very striking and it is framed by an interesting bold border of boxes filled with latchhook medallions and every now and then a crazy kaleidoscopic motif. A truly tribal Kazak, the field filled with floating widgets and the drawing loose and naive. Beautiful colour and long lustrous pile. Some minor restoration to the pile, ends and sides original.
