88-A DAGHESTAN PRAYER RUG
NORTH EAST CAUCASUS, CIRCA 1880
The ivory field with an overall serrated leaf lattice containing individual polychrome floral sprays beneath an ivory mihrab containing similar lattice design scattered with minor S- and geometric motifs, in a rust-red hooked scrolling S-motif border between charcoal-brown S-motif and polychrome flowerhead stripes and mill-pattern minor stripes, good pile throughout, natural corrosion in the brown, minute spots of repiling in outer stripe at one end, small patch reweave in central field
