Antique Ganja (Genje, Gendje, Gendge) rug, 19th century, Azerbaijan


Lot: 216
Genje, A field design of multi-coloured diagonal stripes in light, beautifully patinated colours, decorated with double “S” motifs and small birds. Red, green, yellow and blue octagons, interspersed with arrows arranged in pairs, decorate the white-ground main border. Wide minor borders with reciprocal trefoils. – The lower end finish has been restored and both upper corners have been replaced. The selvedges have been renewed in places. Low spots in the pile.
