Antique Kuba Alpan "crab" rug, late 19th century,  Northern Hillside Kuba Region, North East Azerbaijan

Plate 396 An attractive example with a profusion of colours, including a particularly bright yellow. The minor borders contain an attractive, very Japanese looking, floral composition, and both the Seichur border and the predominant dark blue-green (field) and rose-red colours enforce a Seichur attribution. However, the piece has an all-wool foundation, the sides being overcast in blue and green wool. Probably late 19th century 183 x 122 cm
