A rare antique Kuba rug, second half  19th century, Northern Hillside Kuba Region, North East Azerbaijan

This is a striking piece with its large-scale border contrasting with the relatively tiny instrumentation of its field.

seen on http://rjohnhowe.wordpress.com

The scale of the border makes the field seem plainish but looked at more closely it has its own dense instrumentation.

Below is a long section of this spacious, colorful border with its abrashed green-green-blue ground.
