Antique Caucasian Kuba Syrt Chichi carpet, 19th century, Azerbaijan.
Plate no: 351 Ian Bennett’s Oriental Rugs Volume I

This is a particularly pleasing example. The colours are vivid...although there is no diminution of the lively, kaleidoscopic effect of the busy design, the compositional elements are more generously spaced. Note the way one bar goes the 'wrong' way two-thirds of the distance down each long border. The faded area at the right edge of the rug near the bottom is a re-weave. Second half of the 19th century. 155 x 113 cm
