530. A Small Zeichur Carpet, Caucasus, Early 20th Century

The central field with two crossed losenge designs, also known as the St. Andrews cross representing stylized leaves stemming from rosette medallions, the imagery gives the impression of a very wide repeating motif and originally stems from Caucasian dragon carpets. Woven in cream, medium blue, rust, black, and coral. Wool pile on wool warp with very finely finished warp ends.
