Antique Kuba rug, North East Azerbaijan

19th century, 5'2" X 3'6" [m. 1.60 X 1.10]

Warps: wool
Weft: wool, two shoots after each row of knots
Knotting: Ghiordes, wool, 120 knots per square inch {1900 per dm.2}

This appealing rug is decorated with a plethora of leaves, flowers, swastikas, and jerky white figures on its dark ground. Although the figures are more dissipated than the Chelaberd, Zejwa, or Kazak Sunburst, they are in the same mold.
