Description

286. KUBA DISTRICT RUG, Nineteenth century 4'7" x 6'7" (140 x 200 cm) Although this design is associated with the town of Perpedil in the Kuba district, it was probably woven over a wider area. Most examples have a dark blue field, and the kufesque border is common. Few are found in a prayer rug format.

Note: There is a date on this prayer rug shown in Islamic hijri year: 1340. This date corresponds to 1921/1922 on the Gregorian calendar.
