Lot Notes
Many Seychour rugs show strong European influence probably from Russia. This rug however is even closer to the original border designs found in Savonnerie and Aubusson carpets (see Recueil de Dessins de Tapis et Tapisseries du Mobilier de la Couronne, Paris, n.d., pl.1811 for a Savonnerie example). It is likely that this rug was woven for a visiting Russian dignitary.
