1317 AH - 1899/1900 AD dated rare antique Kuba rug, Southern Lowland Kuba Region or Khyzy District. Azerbaijan. 4ft 3in X 9ft 5in

This piece clearly exemplifies the enrapturing artistry that developed among the tribespeople throughout the Caucasus mountain range. On first glance, the three strong asymmetrical medallions and fan-shaped anchors are riveting. However, one soon realizes the entire field of this jubilant area size is fascinating. Two women in traditional dress, mythical birds, two-headed horse-like creatures, and a dense sprinkling of multitudinous tribal symbols and motifs are exuberantly portrayed. Claremont Rugs
