Antique Kuba rug, late 19th century, Southern Kuba Region, North East Azerbaijan

Kuba The most striking feature of this Kuba is its extra wide, white-ground main border with a sweeping, baroque-style wavy vine. Small, geometrically drawn palmettes linked by vertical lines of tiny diamonds form a repeat in the cobalt blue field, a style seen in sumakh flatweaves from the same region. Somewhat reduced ends, slight signs of wear in the pile.

Size: 200 x 157 cm
Age: Late 19th century
Estimate: 7000
