An English needlepoint rug, hand worked in wool by Liberty's of London, last quarter 19th centiry, a copy of an earlier Shirvan rug including the date 1213 woven into it, the date translates to 1798 in our calendar, 18thC Shirvan rugs are rare, and of course no cameras existed, the colors have been updated to English tastes of the time, the same Jazzy colors you see in Crazy Quilts in the late 19thC, but if the weaver has faithfully copied the design of the earlier rug, then this gives us a documentation of designs from the 18thC and becomes a window in time

Note: The date shown here is 1213. Although Arabic text is written from right-to-left, numbers should be written the same way as with left-to-right languages. Therefore, AH 1231 (1816) or even AH 1312 (1894 AD) would be a more proper date for this design, if not a later date.
