Antique Shirvan Kabistan prayer rug / namazlyg, mid 19th century, Southern Shirvan Region, Azerbaijan.

Shirvan Prayer Rug A delicate diamond lattice of blue serrated leaves covers the entire surface of the white field. It is filled with flowering shrubs. The mihrab has diminished to a narrow, almost nondescript band at the very top. Very finely woven and elegantly drawn, this carpet is an early example of its group. Replaced selvedges, several restored areas, low pile.
