Antique Southern Shirvan Region rug, Azerbaijan


Lot: 40
Saliani Colourful star-shaped blossoms with four buds – a border design frequently seen in Karabagh carpets – form a dense, four-row pattern repeat in the midnight blue field of this Saliani. Hooked diamonds alternate with pairs of arrowheads in the white-ground main border. – The sides have not been cut, but rolled back. Slightly reduced ends, thin pile in places, small stitched holes. The black-brown is corroded.
