Antique Hadji Jalili Tabriz rug, Azerbaijan, NW Iran, 11'8" x 16'

Demonstrating deep refinement and superb craftsmanship, this oversize classical carpet of generous width emulates the style of the master designer, Hadji Jallili. An exceptional use of abrash (purposeful color striation) adds visual texture to the unadorned field that surrounds the graceful teardrop medallion. Exquisitely nuanced rendering fills every inch with great elegance, while a deeply saturated yet wonderfully time-softened palette lends a harmonious, inviting atmosphere. The chocolate to walnut brown of the medallion, corners and border is a welcome departure from the traditional use of navy blue.
