Antique Tabriz Hadji Jalili rug, Azerbaijan, NW Iran, 3'11" x 5'7"

In this early rug from a most illustrious workshop, repeating boteh (paisley-like) motifs of unusual elongated stature and grace are set against a golden wheat-toned field. Shimmering abrash (color striation) skillfully imparts a dramatic watercolor effect. The delicately drawn main border amplifies the beauty of this collectible court rug.
