Zaqatala is situated in north western Azerbaijan. The district has been inhabited by multinational groups for a long time, thus the designs of the rugs woven in the area show different ethnic influences. In this small-format example, the field design is drawn in the geometric style of flatweaves. Offset rows of closely spaced hexagons, each enclosing a hooked rectangle, have been arranged into horizontal lines by colour change. The wide white border displays two rows of stylised facing birds. Slight signs of age and wear, good overall condition.
